Josep M. Vilanova Claret (Monistrol de Montserrat, 1955) received his Ph.D. in architecture from the School of Architecture of Barcelona (UPC). Since 1983 he is Associate Professor of the Departament of Urbanism and Urban Planning (UPC). He has been President of the Town planner Architects Association of Catalonia (2001-2010) and currently leads the Union of Town planer Architects Associations of Spain.He has carried out several academic tasks at the Schools of Architecture of Vallès and Barcelona, as well as at the Polytechnics Foundation.He was a founder member of the multidisciplinary team EARHA (Housing Restoration Advisory Team), since 1985. He was one of the authors of the Special Plan for Internal Reform of Barceloneta, that was awarded the National Prize of Urbanism in 1983. He has also been author of several plans all over the Spanish territory. Among other prizes, he was awarded the Ph.D.with disctinction (UPC) and the Catalonian Town Planning Prize of 2003, for the Revision of the Master Plan of Torroella de Montgrí. He is an expert on restoration (diverse scales) as well as on regional planning. He has also supervised several researh projects on town planning and landscape. He has lead with Ricard Pié the Territorial Sectorial Housing Plan for the Housing Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya, approved in 2010.
