TOURBANISM is the title of the 6th Conference of the International Forum on Urbanism that will take place from January 25th to 27th, 2012 in Barcelona. Ricard Pié and Josep M. Vilanova gave the lecture "A century of tourism in Europe. New challenges to the discipline of Urbanism", which has been published in this journal (ARA, number 2) later on. Besides, Ricard Pié was member of the Executve Comitee of the Conference.

The conference "Proyecto+Investigación 2. La lógica del proyecto: 6 elementos + 1 acción" that appears in this publication took place in October and November 2011 at the A Coruña School of Architecture. This conference suggests as the main topic the reflection on the logical processes of creation; their precise systematization in order they become transmissible. Ricard Pié was asked to analyze, diagnose and propose an intervention from the concept "Limit", which is the title of the lecture and article.

Ordenación versus proyecto. La planificación del paisaje 

Ordenar, planificar y proyectar el paisaje no es un quehacer contradictorio, sino tres aproximaciones de naturaleza distinta -escalar, estratégica y conceptualmente- que conforman el campo disciplinar del paisajismo. Es posible que en esta triple entrada, la formulación que está más a precario sea la planificación. Por ello, es necesario profundizar en cuál es su cometido e instrumental específico.

Evolución y tendencias en el diseño urbanístico de los parques científicos y tecnológicos españoles

El objeto de este artículo es presentar los resultados de un estudio sobre la evolución y tendencias en el diseño urbanístico de los parques científicos y tecnológicos españoles. Este estudio se ha realizado como parte de los trabajos previos para la redacción del "Plan Especial Urbanístico del turó de Gardeny", un documento encargado el año 2009, para repensar la ordenación del Parque de Lleida.

Architect Javier Boned Purkiss is the editor of this book, that presents a basic perspective of the contemporary architectural outlook of Málaga. Ricard Pié contributes to this compilation of articles with the epilogue.

Después de varios meses de trabajo, el equipo de AL>tour da luz a los materiales de la publicación Turismo líquido, en edición digital. Este libro recoge los trabajos realizados en torno al Proyecto de Investigación de Excelencia "Las piezas mínimas del turismo", concedido por la Junta de Andalucía en 2006, realizado en el marco de la nueva Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Málaga (eAM’). Tanto el proyecto como la edición de esta publicación han sido dirigidos por los profesores Ricard Pié, investigador principal, y Carlos Rosa.

Este documento corresponde al proyecto del Plan territorial sectorial de vivienda de Cataluña, que ha de constituir el marco orientador para la aplicación a todo el territorio de Cataluña de las políticas que establece la Ley 18/2007 del derecho a la vivienda, y es el instrumento esencial de planificación territorial en materia de vivienda creado por la Ley en su Título II. Los trabajos para la redacción del Plan han sido dirigidos por Josep M. Vilanova y Ricard Pié.

This book makes a balance of Rosa Barba's work and teaching. Ten years after her death this publication aims to be a brief summary of her work, thoughts and projects that she left before melting into the landscape. Ricard Pié is the editor of this publication, as well as the author of several articles.

This book presents the contributions of participants in the Second Biennial of the Canary Islands: Architecture, Art and Landscape (both seminars and exhibitions). The biennial explores contemporary thought based on the concept of "silence", a line of reasoning developed through the interaction between two concurrent exhibitions. The two shows engaged in a dialogue and captured some of the multiple sounds that inhabit silence. Ricard Pié contributes to the book with the article "Contra el paisajismo".

Article de Ricard Pié i Juan Pablo Saucedo en la Revista de Blanquerna, amb motiu de la inauguració del nou edifici que acollirà la Biblioteca Mediateca de la Facultat de Comunicació Blanquerna. Aquesta biblioteca, obra dels mateixos autors, està situat a la cruïlla dels carrers Valldonzella i Montalegre de Barcelona, molt a prop de la Facultat de Comunicació de Blanquerna, i ocupa una superfície de 2.365 m2.

This publication collects the lectures given at the internacional conference "Viajes en la transición de la arquitectura española hacia la modernidad", celebrated in Pamplona on May 6th and 7th 2010, and organized by the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra. Ricard Pié took part in the conference with the lecture entitled "El viaje y la estancia temporal del viajero. Orígenes del hotel turístico en España", with Eduardo Jiménez, Ingrid C. Vargas and Carlos J. Rosa.

The article "Del Gran Tour al turismo de masas", written by Ricard Pié, Josep M. Vilanova and Purificación Díaz, focuses on the evolution of tourism in Europe. The Grand Tour was the origin of tourism in the XVIIth century, although at that time it was limited to the aristocracy. It was not until mid xxth centrury that working class started to enjoy tourism as a leisure activity. Nowadays, tourism has turned into a global phenomenon whose significance in world economy is crucial.

The Vth International Congress for Spatial Planning took place in November 2007 in Malaga, under the title: "Water, territory and landscape. From the programmed instruments to the applied planning". Ricard Pié participated in a round table to discuss about "Social participation and defence of the territory". This book presents what it was stated during that session.

En 1996 la SCOT organizó un seminario de investigación sobre las “Aportaciones catalanas en el campo de la urbanística y de la ordenación del territorio”. Este seminario formaba parte de los trabajos que promovió el IEC para evaluar un siglo de filosofía y ciencias sociales en los Países Catalanes. La convicción de que se había acabado un cicle histórico propició este seminario, en el que se estudió lo que se había hecho en Cataluña en relación a la construcción teórica de la urbanística y la ordenación del territorio a escala internacional.

“Cuando Alvar Aalto inicia su actividad como arquitecto, a finales de la década de los años 20 del siglo pasado, Escandinavia comenzaba a incorporarse al debate arquitectónico surgido a raíz de la [...] la Revolución Industrial. De la concepción funcionalista [...] Aalto adopta ideas y formas. Pero la estética reduccionista y la aséptica objetividad en el tratamiento de la materia habrían de entrar en conflicto [...] con el resto del legado al que el maestro finlandés jamás renunciará: el de la arquitectura popular, enraizada en el carácter local.”

The article written by Ricard Pié “Ahora toca hacer ciudad” included in this publication is focused on low-density developments, which it is a very consolidated reality nowadays all over the world. This means an important threat for local governments to manage. Tha book comprises a detailed description of low-density residential developments, an analysis of the environmental, social and economic costs this developments generates and a selection of instruments and policies to manage this type of sprawl.

Ricard Pié wrote the article "El paisatge com a argument. La revisió del Pla general de Torroella de Montgrí", included in this publication of the Territory and Sustainability Departament. In this article he explained the main objective of this plan: the environmental balance between infrastructures, buildings, non-built soil and natural spaces, through a landscape strategy in order to turn the territory into the driving force that will promote and improve tourism.

The magazine "Contesti: Città, territori, progetti" was born in 2007 as new edition of the bulletin edited by the Urban and Territorial Planning Department of the University of Florence. This new series is particularly concerned with critical and constructive discussions over institutional themes, such as urban and territorial planning and preservation of city and landscape, in order to strenghten the public interest in front of a planning system unable to manage it. Ricard Pié participates in this issue with the article "Urbanistica in Spagna dalla città al territorio".

Aquest llibre recull tota l'activitat que ha desenvolupat el Patronat Municipal de l'Habitatge entre 1991 i 2005, un periode prou important com per poder tenir una visió de quina ha estat l'evolució de l'habitatge protegit a Barcelona. Entre aquests habitatges, es presenten dues promocions que van realitzar Rosa Barba i Ricard Pié a Nou Barris i a Horta Guinardó.

In 2006 took place in GuangZhou the International Conference "Megacities". Ricard Pié and Juliana Ting presented the lecture "The construction of the Europan High-Speed Train Network", published as an article in the proceedings.The article examines the possibility to consider a spatial planning for Europe based on the advent of the High-Speed Train. The introduction of this new means of transport allows us to imagine a European megacity composed of many cities of different sizes connected by a high-speed network.

The article "El medio y el paisaje. Los argumentos centrales del nuevo planeamiento urbanístico de la Costa Brava. La revisión del Plan General de Torroella de Montgrí" is written by Josep M Vilanova and Ricard Pié. The article is included in this publication, that collects and expands the contents of the Course with the same title. This course took place between September and October 2003 within the frame of the Autumn Courses at the Consorcio Internacional Menéndez Pelayo de Barcelona - Centre Ernest Lluch.

Ricard Pié i Josep M. Vilanova write this article entitled "Les grans infraestructures de comunicacions", in which they explain how a territory changes due to large communication networks. In this case, the city of Figueres is renewing its road and rail network in order to consolidate its urban and territorial systems. This process means also a good oportunitry for Figueres to become one of the leader cities in the high speed rail net  that connects Spain to Europe.

Ricard Pié participates in this issue of DAU with the article "Naixement, mort i resurrecció dels mercats municipals". In this article it is described the historical evolution and main features of comecial spaces, from the beginning of XIX century to these days, when traditional markets have reemerged. Finally, three markets are analyzed in detail: Boqueria and Barceloneta, in Barcelona, and Can Mulà, in Mollet del Vallès.

Ricard Pié wrote the article "La gestione della costa in Spagna: un'esperienza straordinaria", included in the book Passeggiate lungo molti mari, a complete study on the sea promenades all along Europe and America. Ricard Pié's article presents how the Spanish coast has been managed from 1983 to the first years of the XXIst century. Within this period the coast has been conquered and renewed, beaches have been regenerated, and the sea front has been upgraded.

This edition of "Urban" devotes its attention to issues regarding the teaching of town planning, as well as the complex and characteristic problems that accompany this activity. Ricard Pié's article, entitled "La titulación del urbanismo en España. Una nueva oportunidad", describes the urgent need to regain society's respect for town planning. Otherwise, architects will be unable to construct the discipline upon their experience and may have to wait for other disciplines closer to landscape to define the nature of town planning in the future.

La demarcación de Girona del COAC organized in Spring of 2004 the "Debat Costa Brava. Congrés: un futur sostenible", in which many experts analized, from the territory and landscape point of views, infrastructures and services, the socioeconomic structure and demography, the geographic area and the Costa Brava area of influence. The will of this conference is to listen to all the voices from all the sectors involved and analize problems from different perspectives. Ricard Pié participated with the article entitled "Ara toca fer ciutat".

Ricard Pié signa l'article "Universitat i territori", dins la publicació Concurs per a l'ordenació del Campus Metropolità d'Arquitectura del Vallès, en el qual fa un repàs a la història de l'ETSAV a través de la seva relació amb el territori, així com una mirada als diversos episodis que ha viscut l'ensenyament universitari a Espanya.

Informe CYD 2004 wants to be the first of a series of annual reports aimed at developing the most rellevant contributions universities offer to development. The debate that comes up from this report will shape future annual studies. All the members of the CYD Foundation have contributed to this publication, as well as many other authors from the university and business world; among them, Ricard Pié, who has written the article "Universidad y desarrollo".

This book shows the need to protect the coast to prevent its degradation, but at the same time, to correctly manage it in order to help its development without any damage. The publication includes theoretical and practical articles on coastal planning, renovation, promotion and restoration, though the experiencies of several towns and the discourses pronounced by professionals, civil services managers and experts from the university world. Among them, Ricard Pié signs the article "L'ordenació del litoral".
