In December 2010 it was approved the research project "Housing plan in Catalonia", with Ricard Pié as principal researcher. This project was selected within the frame of the National R+D+I 2008-2011 Plan of the Deputy Directorate for Research Projects of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, and it was aimed to be developed from 2011 to 2013. The research group directed by Ricard Pié and Josep M. Vilanova Claret was set up in 2005 into the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning at the School of Architecture of the Vallès (UPC). The aim of this research was to develop the Territorial Sectorial Housing Plan of Catalonia, promoted and funded by the Department of the Environment and Housing of the Government of Catalonia. The guidelines of this research focus on the analysis of previous studies and the state-of-the-art on housing plans, to draw urban and territorial analysis methodologies considering topics such as:
- The evolution and dynamics of population (2001-2008) within metropolitan areas, urban systems and rural areas.
- The evolution of housing development (1993-2008).
- New-build housing estates and renewal of current housing stock (2001-2008).
- Housing measures stated by urban plans since 2002 (Urban Development Act 2/2002 of Catalonia) and regional plans (since 2004).
This research project results are statistical materials on population, housing, land-use and land reservations to build subsidized housing, as well as cartographic materials for each of the 119 territorial delimited areas, at urban scale and census level.
